Sin City (2005)
Sin City Plot Summary:
The fans of action genres where the elements of crime, fantastic and thriller merge in amazing mixture, are sure to appreciate Sin City, the screen adaptation of three graphical novels from the series of the same name. The screen version had been shot in "noir" style by Frank Miller, the author of "Sin City" series, together with Robert Rodriguez in 2005. Robert Rodrigues thought this film to be artistic experiment on Frank Miller graphical novels' stylistics and the movie plot is close adequate to that written in the novels. This film had been shown at Cannes festival in 2005, where it got Grand Prix in the nomination for Visual acuteness.
Shot in white & black and enriched by some color elements, the movie has had commercial success and was positively accepted by both the critics and the viewers. The film tells the story of the life of a fictional city called Basin City, founded in the XIX century as the staging post of gold diggers, where they could sell their findings and have a rest with flighty girls. The city is ruled by totally corrupted politicians, who share influence spheres with mafia gangs and are safely covered by the police. The Old City is the downtown area, where the power belongs to prostitutes, who are ready to protect it using all possible methods including guns. The film consists of four novels, where the characters run into each other. In the first novel there is a nameless killer (Josh Harnett), who is the last romantic person in this city of Sin. In the second novel you will meet with Marv (Mickey Rurk), a street gangster, who found dead Goldi (Jamie King), whom he met the day before. As it turned out Marv is accused in killing Goldi. The third novel tells the story of Dwait (Clive Owen), the prostitutes' guardian who had a quarrel with Jackie Boy (Rafael del Toro Sanchez). This incident caused Jackie's gang to come to this city. The forth novel has another star to shine – Bruce Willis, who is playing Hartigan. He saved Nansy (Jessica Alba) from the hands of maniac (starred by Nick Stall). Everything ends by the epilogue where you will see a nameless killer again.
On the one hand, the film draws your attention by so called "oldness" and scenery beauty. "Noir" style helps to better experience the atmosphere of those times (the middle of the 20th century) and the contrast between those people who fight for the good and those who feel best living without any compunctions. On the other hand, the plot is quite casual as for an action movie, so the film is quite suitable for those who would like to relax in front of TV after a hard working day. The fans of action and gloomy sceneries won't regret about the time they spent watching Sin City movie.
