The Departed (2006)

To my mind, there are three main strategies film directors use to guarantee the success of their movies: star-studded cast, excellent idea or a combination of both. Martin Scorsese opted for a win-win option, when he decided to remake a highly rated Hong Kong film Internal Affairs and packed in with a carefully selected star cast.

The Departed is a crime thriller movie with a good cop (Leonardo DiCaprio), a bad cop (Matt Damon) and a gangster (Jack Nicholson). For years the state police has been waging a doomed war against a criminal syndicate headed by Frank Costello (Nicholson), who is one step ahead. The reason is he has an informer in the police, Colin Sullivan (Damon), whose career is on the rise. But here is another informer, Billy Costigan, who managed to gain trust of the criminal leader and become a part of the band. Each man leads double life gathering the information about the clan he penetrated. But nothing is covered which will not come to light – this is the rule of life, which always works and this intricate situation was just the case. When it becomes clear that there is a wolf in sheep's clothing, this is now a matter of time who will be the first to succeed in uncovering the informer and get safely away.

What this haunting movie has in abundance is suspense. It will make you bite your nails nervously as it's very hard to resist to be involved in the story. There is a very captivating, dynamic, fast-paced plot. Be sure, you won't fall asleep during watching.

As you already know, the cast is top-notch! There is no other better actor playing a malicious protagonist as Nicholson, and he is perfect at doing this. Leonardo DiCaprio acting is also amazing. He lives his character the way you feel compassion towards him through the whole movie. You will also be captivated by Mark Wahlberg superb performance. Do you want me to remind that Martin Sheen is a great actor? He really is, you will find proofs in The Departed, where there are also experienced Alec Baldwin and Matt Damon, who make a fantastic team. Even if you are not a great fan of a thriller and crime movies are not in the top of the list of your favorites, this film is still worth seeing due to unbelievably excellent and cleverly chosen cast.

What is more this is one of the movies with a very tangled story, which actually captivate all your attention. Whatever the feelings you may experience while watching The Departed, but boredom will be out of the list for sure!
