10 High School Movies You Should Watch

With all the action movies and romance, it is always nice to try a new trend in movies. The high school movies are certainly the best new option that one should consider for a change. Here is a list of good high school movies that are a must watch.

  • West Side Story (1961)
    This is a 1961 high school movies which is a must watch. The move grabbed ten academy awards which included that of Best Picture. Starring Natallie Wood, the 1950s New York slums setting movie tells a story of two young lovers on different ethnic groups of opposing street gangs. The movie has elements of hopes and tragedy with outstanding dances. It essentially a dancing movie directed by Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins. This is one of those good movies you fear blinking will rob you of an essential scene.


  • Friday Night Lights (2004)
    If you love high school football, this is certainly the movie to go for. The story is about high school football team in an economically depressed town of Odessa, Texa. With not much to do in this quiet town, the Friday night football is one thing that everybody looks forward to. However, the challenge of winning the championship is negligible and the players have to work harder in training so as to escape the dead-end lives that their parents endure. This is certainly a movie that will take you through a journey of emotions and back.


  • Dead Poets Society (1989)
    In the mood to get inspired? The Dead Poets Society is a movie starring Robin Williams and directed by Peter Weir which will certainly inspire you through out to the final scene. The story is about the English Professor who teaches his students to take each day while thinking outside the condones of prep school. The move is dramatic and completely inspiring. Trust me when I say you will need a box of tissues before you click on the play button. It is utterly emotional.


  • Risky Business (1983)
    If you need to see Tom Cruise at his best rising to his current glory, this 1983 movie will certainly intrigue you. The story is about a high school Chicago teenager whose parents leaves for vacation and is left loose. He takes trip in his father's Porsche when it accidentally falls in Lake Michigan. He has to replace it before his father gets back. This is the best movie full of creative methods of making money.


  • The Virgin Suicides (1999)
    Directed by Sofia Coppola, this is a great movie about five beautiful sisters regarding their mysterious existence told by their neighboring boy who adored them. They come back together after 20 years to solve the mystery of the sisters. This is a must watch movie of the solitary lives of the girls as their lives disappeared.


  • Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)
    Directed by Mike Newell, this fourth installment of the Harry Potter series will certainly be a block buster for years. The story is about the Triwizard Tournament when three champions are selected but one is eliminated by the Goblet spits, Harry. The fate of Harry is inevitable and his life in Hogwarts is no longer safe. This is certainly a movie worth watching in spite of your preferred genre.


  • Superbad (2007)
    Directed by Greg Mottola and starring Jonah Hill Michael Cera and Christopher Mintz, this one of those movies that will leave you wondering how in the world they pulled out such a stunt. It is a high school comedy. The story is centered on Seth, Evan and Gorgell who are teenagers who love drinking and desperate to get laid. When told by a girl she like to get drinks, Seth finds an opportunity to make a girlfriend. The three plan on how to get the alcohol but before they can deliver, they are separated. Find the intriguing scenes which will leave your bones cracking scene after scene.


  • Boyz n the Hood (1991)
    Starring Cuba Gooding Jr., Ice Cube, Morris Chestnut, Larry Fishburne and Angela Basset and directed by John Singleton, this is one of the all times best high school life movie which is in every bit worth watching. It potrays the reality of high school life of three friends who are taking different paths in life: athelete, college aspirations and one on drug dealing. The plot is suberb and takes a different turn when one of Cuba Gooding Jr. friends is murdered leaving him to learn a hard life lesson. Watch the movie and find out how Gooding escapes the crime and violence by following his dad's guidance.


  • Mean Girls (2004)
    Starring Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert and Amanda Seyfried and directed by Mart Waters, this is a great high school drama/ comedy to watch. The story is based around Cady Heron, who is an African bush raised kid by her zoologist parents. She has lived in the dark side for so long and has no idea what high school life is all about. Thinking that she has the greatest skills in survival for the fittest, her life takes an unthinkable turn when home-schooled 15 year olds enters the public high school and she is to face psychological warfare and unwritten social rules. Watch this intriguing plot as the bush-raised girl struggles to keep up and beat the rules.


  • American Pie (1999)
    Starring Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott, Shannon Elizabeth, Alyson Hannigan, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Tara Reid and Chris Klein, this is certainly the best high school movie that you will ever find. The story is about four teenage boys who realized that loosing their virginity before setting off for college is not an easy thing. For their personal motivation to try harder, they enter in a pact to be the first person to score. The senior prom is on the downside their last chance to make their moves. As the date nears, the boys are wonder who will be lucky to score first. However, there is a problem; do they really want to do this?

Nice job with the list! Have seen almost all of the movies above, and you're right, I loved them all.
But Wild Child should really be added to this list. British schooling is so adorable! And Alex Pettyfer... words aren't enough!
